Motoric Rise

Motoric Rise features mixed meter, crunchy harmonies, and a continual forward momentum. The title is a play on the phrase, “meteoric rise,” and refers to the driving ostinato baseline that provides a moving counterpoint to the flowing chords played by the upper reeds. The resulting dense texture is contrasted by a light and pointillistic middle section, in which the ostinato is fragmented and playfully shared among small subsets of the full ensemble.
