Graceful Airs

Graceful Airs, an arrangement of Londonderry Air and Amazing Grace, was commissioned by Beth Wheeler of the Arkansas Symphony to honor the memory of her mother, Elizabeth A. Lyon.  It opens with a simple presentation of Londonderry Air by the English horn.  It is joined by a gentle, arpeggiated piano accompaniment.  This is followed by a presentation of Amazing Grace, and then the two melodies are interwoven, building to an emotional climax.  The energy dissipates and gives way to a tender, sentimental conclusion.
